Why you should be having Capsicums every day?

Capsicums are cultivated worldwide and used in many cuisines. They are very versatile in nature and can be eaten both cooked and raw. They are also referred to as bell peppers or sweet peppers. The Capsicum species originated in South and Central America, and Christopher Columbus brought it back to Europe when he returned from the Americas. Records show that capsicum has been used in cooking since 6000 BC.

Capsicums come in various colors, such as red, yellow, orange, and green (which are unripe). Green ones have a slightly bitter flavor and are not as sweet as fully ripe ones. The main type of capsicum is shaped like a bell and has four lobes. Red capsicums are sweeter than green capsicums, but they soften faster. Orange capsicums are sweet and crisp while the yellow capsicums have a mild flavour.

Capsicums have various benefits too. They are low and exceptionally rich in vitamin C and other antioxidants, making them an excellent addition. Here is a look at why you should be having Capsicums every day.

Lutein and zeaxanthin are carotenoids which are found in relatively high amounts in capsicums. They may improve eyes when consumed in adequate amounts. Regular consumption of capsicums may cut the visual impairments like cataract and macular degeneration.

Capsicum is very high in Vitamin C. In fact, red capsicum has the highest vitamin C content among most of the fruit and vegetables. Foods high in vitamin C are beneficial for the immune system. The vitamin C in capsicum can protect the body against by encouraging production of white blood cells.

​Improves bones power

Capsicum is rich in manganese, a mineral that is a cofactor in the formation of bone cartilage and bone collagen and is essential for bone mineralization. The Vitamin K in capsicum also plays a role in strengthening bones and protecting against osteoporosis.
